Color Wheel gets a special Super G Send Off

Sadly, today was Color Wheelz last day at Super G.

Sophie and Mai Lynn helped us clean up the residency space and pack everything into the van.   Hugs, tears and phone numbers were exchanged and we were given lovely gifts for our departure. There was a power outage halfway through our good bye’s, which made the moment even more special. Sad goodbyes in the dark made the moment more special than we could of ever imagined it. Much love to Sue, Kim, Nina, Harold, Richard, Faiza, Sophie, Mailynn and everyone else. You made our Super G residency extra special and we will never forget you. Hugs and kisses forever.

Join us for Super G Supper! Saturday, June 18

On Saturday, June 18 Color Wheelz will be hosting a colorful food potluck at Super G Mart. The dinner is free, but you have to bring one dish that demonstrates some kind of play on color. You can change the color of food using food dye, fruit juice, herbs, spices, xanthan gum, corn starch, arrow root, food processors or invent a new method of your own. The idea is to manipulate the way we perceive food and affect the way it tastes and/or smells. For example, red may be assumed to be strawberry or cherry and yellow is perceived to be lemon or banana. Meat is usually a reddish brown and salad is usually a greenish yellow. What if salad was a reddish brown and meat was a greenish yellow? Would you still eat it?

The color of the plate, bowl or lights  also has an impact on the color of food. Feel free to bring plates, table clothes or lights to set up for our dinner!

If you have any questions please email info@coloriumlaboratorium.com

ColorWheelz@UNCG

Today we finished our ReCycolor installation at Gatewood Gallery, which is the UNCG campus art gallery. The students in Christopher Thomas’s 8am color theory class worked feverishly all week getting it together. We started with a pile of donated and found items from various locations around Greensboro. The first day was dedicated to exploration and play. We experimented with the materials and learned about spacial color. Students collaborated on all of the projects. They designed, built and installed the show in just four days. The works in the show focus on Reflective color, found color and principles of color relativity. Audio and digital photography pieces are on display inside and outside the gallery as well. Thanks to Lee Walton, Donovan McKnight, Christopher Thomas, and UNCG for making this happen!

ColorWheelz@Superg:Day 6

This morning we continued our work on the installation at the UNCG Gatewood Studio Arts Building. Students from Christopher Thomas’s class are creating an amazing environment based on color, form and light. Things are coming together very nicely! Here are the pictures from today.

ColorWheelz@SuperG:Day5

We started the day with a visit to Christopher Thomas’s Color Theory class at UNCG.  We brought loads of donated items from our ongoing project Recycolor

We spread everything out in the UNCG gallery and started to think about how we will manipulate the items to create a sculpture based on shape and form. There are so many possibilities! Stay tuned for updates. The sculpture should be done by Friday and you can come check it out in person!

Our next stop was SUPER G. Sophie and I (Julia) did some work in the residence space, while Color Wheelz “trucked” on outside….how punny. Here is a great recording from today’s visitors:
